Help a black cat this Halloween

In medieval times, black cats were associated with witchcraft, and they often suffered abuse, torture, and gruesome deaths at the hands of the superstitious. While we'd like to think that people are more sophisticated today, black cats are still targeted by cruel people, particularly during the Halloween season, and it is well known that they are more difficult to place in loving, responsible homes.

Please help reduce the suffering and abuse of all cats—black or otherwise—by becoming a SNIP sponsor today. Your support right now can keep SNIP's lifesaving spay-and-neuter program going throughout the year Yes, I want to help! To help end homelessness and suffering among vulnerable black cats (and other animals), PETA's SNIP (Spay and Neuter Immediately, Please!) program is offering free spay-and-neuter surgeries for black cats this Halloween. Lifesaving efforts such as this, which help stem the abuse that results from the cat overpopulation crisis, do not come cheap. Won't you support this vital work by becoming a SNIP sponsor today?

By conservative estimates, in one year, an unspayed cat can give birth to 16 kittens, and these kittens can go on to reproduce in just six months! SNIP's work means that countless animals will never be born to be left on the streets to fend for themselves, succumb to untreated injuries and illnesses, become the victims of abuse, or be turned over to an animal shelter to sit in a cage and wait for a home, sometimes in vain. About half of the 6 to 8 million homeless and unwanted animals who are abandoned in U.S. animal shelters every year must be euthanized because there aren't enough loving homes for them.

PETA's fieldworkers target low-income areas and distribute fliers in order to spread the word about our spay/neuter clinic services. The SNIP-mobile often visits these neighborhoods, making it easier for residents to take advantage of the program's reduced-cost services for these animals and break the cycle of animal overpopulation in their own backyard.

The SNIP-mobile also visits animal shelters, where it spays and neuters animals prior to adoption so that more unwanted dogs and cats will not be born to animals who were themselves once stray or abandoned.

Although spaying and neutering black cats and other animals is vital to ending the current animal overpopulation crisis, it comes at a price. A full day's work costs PETA approximately $1,500. With an average of 25 sterilizations performed each day, the expense of keeping this program affordable enough so that it can help as many animals as possible can be enormous.

Will you help make life better for cats—and dogs—by sponsoring SNIP right now?

Very truly yours,

Ingrid Newkirk
Ingrid E. Newkirk
President

P.S. SNIP's efforts to end the suffering of our animal companions have made a real difference for thousands of cats and dogs in the last year alone and have benefited more than 50,000 animals since the program's inception in 2001. Please help create a kinder, safer world for cats and dogs by supporting SNIP today. Thank you.

Do Your Part to Help End Animal Homelessness and Suffering

PETA's SNIP (Spay and Neuter Immediately, Please!) program provides low-cost and free sterilizations for cats and dogs. By sponsoring a single spay or neuter surgery, you can prevent hundreds of puppies or kittens from being born into a world that does not want them.

One of the best ways to help curb the current animal overpopulation crisis—which is the number one reason dogs and cats suffer abuse and neglect and die needlessly for lack of a good home—is by contributing to spay/neuter services. Because SNIP offers these services at a drastically reduced rate in order to benefit the most animals possible, the program operates at a loss and relies largely upon the generosity of sponsors.

Please make a special sponsorship gift today and help us work toward a brighter future for cats and dogs.

https://secure.peta.org/site/Donation2?df_id=2460&2460.donation=form1&set.custom.Campaign_Code=C09KEABXXXG&autologin=true&JServSessionIdr004=vwk7yjj7ra.app333a

SNIP Cruelty to Animals in the Bud
Every year, millions of unwanted animals are euthanized in shelters, abandoned to die on the streets or in the woods, or given away to irresponsible people who abuse them or fail to provide them with even rudimentary care. The good news is that you can help combat this tragedy, and it's as easy as sponsoring SNIP, PETA's "Spay-Neuter Immediately, Please" low-cost spay-neuter program!

By sponsoring a single spay or neuter surgery, you can save hundreds of puppies or kittens from being born into a world that does not want them. Your contribution of just pennies a day will ensure that dogs and cats will receive the surgeries that are desperately needed to stem the flow of unwanted animals.
How SNIP Helps

Last year, PETA spayed or neutered 7,641 animals at either low cost or no cost at all to the animals' guardians, who otherwise would not have been able to afford the procedures. PETA also assists shelters and rescue groups, spaying and neutering animals prior to adoption so that more unwanted dogs and cats will not be born to those already found stray or abandoned.

SNIP Truck Because it is mobile, PETA's spay-neuter clinic can travel to low-income neighborhoods and areas that don't have affordable spay-neuter programs. PETA staffers go into needy neighborhoods to distribute fliers to tell folks about the clinic. The "SNIP-mobile" then parks in these neighborhoods, making it easier for residents—especially those who don't drive—to take their animals in for surgery. If they can't deliver, we'll pick up! SNIP also provides low-cost shots and flea treatment.

Because we offer our services at drastically reduced rates, SNIP operates at a loss. The money we take in does not begin to cover the expenses incurred through buying medications and equipment and paying a full-time staff to operate the clinic seven days a week.

Become a SNiP sponsor and help dogs and cats today.

Cat Rescued from Tree After Three Days (Video)

It took three tries -- and three days -- but a crew of firefighters and two men from Evergreen Tree Experts were finally able to rescue a very distressed cat stuck in a tree. The female tabby cat was stranded in a tree in the Fort Greene section of Brooklyn, New York.

150 Cats Rescued from Wyoming Home (VIDEO)

A family in Powell, Wyo., started out wanting to care for cats. And in a familiar sounding story, they didn't know when to stop. Eventually they had over 150 of them in the house, living in every nook and cranny, in utter filth. Many sick, undernourished, and some pregnant.

Park County authorities got a warrant to seize the cats and with the help of The Humane Society of the United States, the cats were rescued, one by one. They'll be cleaned up and when healthy, adopted out to loving families who will be able to properly care for them.

- FA SOUS ASSOC OU REFUGE (statuts à fournir)
- TESTES FIV ET FELV (sauf chatons en bas âge), PRIMO VACCINES, IDENTIFIES

I saw this on Care2 and thought you'd like it as well.

Care2 is the largest and most trusted information and action site for people who care to make a difference in their lives and the world.Care2.com send We hate spam. We do not sell or share the email addresses you provide.119 comments Living in the city I have always had indoor cats, but I see plenty of outdoor cats and recently met someone seeking advice on how to get a stray she had befriended into her home for the winter. Part of me wonders if a feral cat might be happier to live outside, the ones in my neighborhood seem quite well-fed and frolicsome. But then I think of February in the Northeast, not to mention that Red-tailed Hawk that has been frequenting our backyard around breakfast time…

So, according to the Humane Society of the United States:

1. Transforming a free-roaming cat into a safe cat can be done, but it does require planning, persistence, and patience. The key is to make the change from outdoors to indoors gradually, until the new way of life becomes old hat. Many cats will adjust with minimal effort while others will be miserable–and let you know it. They may scratch at doors, claw at windows, yowl, and try to dash through open doors.

2. If your cat has never used a scratching post or a litter box, introduce both items well in advance of transitioning your cat to a life inside. If you’re feeding your cat outdoors, begin feeding him indoors. Then, instead of letting the cat back outside as soon as he’s finished eating, keep him inside for gradually longer periods of time.

3. Other members of the household may have to be “retrained” to close doors quickly and provide more stimulation for their feline friend. Playing with the cat is a great way to keep both his mind and his body in shape. Some former free-roamers will appreciate your providing “kitty greens” for them to munch on instead of your houseplants: Try planting grass, alfalfa, catnip, wheat, or oat grass (sold in pet supply stores) in indoor pots for this purpose.

4. If you live in a climate that has cold winters, that season may be the perfect time to help your cat make the transition to a life indoors. Your cat is likely to appreciate a warm, dry bed in which to snuggle. After the weather warms up and you’ve checked that screens are secure, open the window and let your cat feel and sniff the fresh air. Or, if your cat is docile enough, take him outside in your arms or on a leash attached to a harness.

5. If you’re having trouble slowly transitioning your cat to a happy life indoors, it may be better to go “cold turkey.” Letting your cat outdoors occasionally may only reinforce his pestering behaviors. Your veterinarian may prescribe short-term drug or homeopathic therapy to help your cat through the transition period.

6. If you have an indoor cat who is scratching your couch or not using the litter box, think twice before you put your cat outdoors. Consult your veterinarian to rule out any medical problems that could be contributing to problem behaviors. If your cat gets a clean bill of health, work with your veterinarian, a trainer, or animal behavior specialist who uses positive training techniques. There is always a reason, from your cat’s point of view, for behavior that you consider to be inappropriate. He is not acting out of spite or revenge. Patience and persistence, not punishment, are the best way to get your cat back to his good habits.

7. If allergies or pregnancy make you think about putting your cat outside or even giving up the cat, consult your physician and learn how to manage those conditions while keeping your cat safe.

8. By providing for your indoor cat’s physical and emotional needs, you can create a safe and stimulating environment. Although domesticated several thousand years ago, cats still retain many behaviors of their wild ancestors. These delightful behaviors can be played out in the great indoors. A paper grocery bag, a cat’s vivid imagination, and your caring attitude will go a long way toward keeping you and your cat young at heart.

The Animal Rescue Site $100,000 Holiday Shelter+ Challenge -- together with Petfinder.com is in full swing! Click on the purple button to fund bowls of food for shelter animals, then look for the "Vote Now!" graphic on the next page. Get your votes in for the eligible shelter or rescue organization in your hometown and help them get some much-needed funds to continue their amazing work.
Just as so many of you have cast your votes in support of your favorite shelter or simply shopped in our store to fund at least 14 bowls of food for rescued animals with every item, you rallied for the cause of animals that were affected by the oil spill in the Gulf Of Mexico. Thanks to your donations, The Animal Rescue Site and GreaterGood.org were able to give grants of more than $108,000 to our charitable partners addressing ongoing issues in the region.
This includes a grant of approximately $33,000 that went to the Institute for Marine Mammal Studies to help treat injured marine animals, provide a new anesthesia machine, and pay for tracking tags that will help monitor the progress of released animals. Earlier this year, $49,000 went to IMMS for the immediate aid of injured sea turtles and other marine mammals.
Another grant of $75,000 was directed to the International Fund for Animal Welfare. IFAW has been working in the Gulf region for many years, coordinating rescue efforts across state lines for wildlife, livestock, and pets following natural disasters and man-made disasters. At the request of the state rescue groups in Texas, Mississippi, and Louisiana, IFAW will be setting up training programs to improve the overall effectiveness of animal rescue, decontamination, and transportation, as well as addressing other issues facing these organizations.
You can continue to support the important work being done on behalf of animals in the southern U.S. by purchasing our Help Gulf Animal Shelters Gift That Gives More™. Your generosity will help ease the burden on rescue groups that have seen a huge influx of pets relinquished to their care by families who are facing economic crisis. For as little as $10, you can support the hundreds of organizations striving to care for these pets and help find them permanent homes. Click here to learn more.
Thank you for helping to rescue animals today!

JANUARY 4, 2011

I hope that everyone had a joyous Christmas and a Happy New Year. Now that 2011 is upon us, we are all attempting to stick to our New Year's resolutions. As animal lovers, we should all make a resolution to educate the public on pet ownership and provide our time or materials that we no longer need, to local shelters. These shelters are always looking for items to ensure all animals are housed in the best conditions possible. Please take a moment to contact your local shelter for a list of any items they may need. Some may even volunteer to pick them up at your home if you have a large amount. Thanks for all you do.

Adoptable Animals
_______________________________________________________________
Hi, I'm MatildaMatilda came to IDA from Out to Pasture Sanctuary. She and her 5 kittens were taken to Out to Pasture by a neighbor who discovered them dumped on her property. Matilda is very sweet and loving and a good momma, but is looking very forward to an empty nest.
We're looking for a permanent home or a foster home for Matilda until we can get her an appointment and into Oregon Humane.
She's currently residing at the IDA office with her kittens. If you'd like to meet Matilda or for more informaiton, please contact Eric at eric[at]idausa[dot]org or 503-249-9996.

Les chats : est-ce bien végan ?
18 octobre 2010
