News du 15 mai 2007 : Designer and Project Runway star Michael Kors recently pacified representatives of The Humane Society of the United States by agreeing to stop using raccoon dog fur in his clothing lines. But Kors is still turning a blind eye to the suffering of the countless other animals he still uses for their fur. His recent action won't result in the deaths of fewer animals-just different animals. Many top designers, including Tommy Hilfiger, Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, Marc Bouwer, and Kenneth Cole, have chosen to take a compassionate stand and rid their lines of fur-or have never used fur at all. There is no reason for Michael Kors not to do the same. PETA has met with Kors' team-including his head designer-and shown them a video that reveals the horrific suffering endured by animals used for fur, but Kors also needs to hear from you. Please take a moment to politely ask him to do the truly compassionate thing and remove all fur from his designs. Animals are simply not ours to wear. For PETA's free guide to compassionate clothing, please visit FurIsDead.com. You can sign up for PETA's Activist Network. News du 16 mai 2007 : Many of our members and activists have said that they joined PETA because they spotted our bumper stickers declaring, “Real Men are Kind to Animals,” “Proud Parent of a Vegetarian,” or “Spay Today, Save a Life Tomorrow.” Stickers on your laptop or luggage can also get people thinking (not to mention that they make your luggage a cinch to spot on the luggage carousel). You can safely bet that you will reach some people with your animal-friendly message, and they will reach more people, and so on. You can check out all our bumper stickers at PETACatalog.com.

Are you looking for a new job in 2007?
Are you passionate about animal rights? Do you like to travel? Are you highly motivated, outgoing, and energetic? Do you want to be an integral part of a team with a long track record of stopping suffering for countless animals worldwide? As part of PETA’s International Grassroots Campaigns (IGC) department, campaigners manage our groundbreaking campaigns against corporations that exploit animals for food, clothing, entertainment, and animal testing. Just a few of IGC’s victories include pressuring Ralph Lauren to end its use of fur, McDonald’s to implement farmed-animal welfare standards, and Gillette to end its use of animal tests. To view a detailed job description or to see other job openings, please visit PETA.jobs. Send a résumé and a cover letter by mail to Attn: Human Resources, 501 Front St., Norfolk, VA 23510; via fax to 757-628-0789; or via e-mail to JobOpenings@peta.org. Applicants must be willing to relocate to Norfolk, Virginia. Thanks for taking action for animals.

News du 15 mai 2007 :

You can help us stop some of the unimaginable cruelty inflicted on animals used for food, fashion, entertainment, and experimentation: Support PETA’s undercover investigations that expose animal abusers. The world would never know about the horrors inside laboratories, slaughterhouses, or fur farms without the courageous efforts of PETA’s undercover investigators. What they document turns stomachs, changes minds, and brings animal abusers to court. Animals who tear their legs off while struggling in steel-jaw traps; chickens who are beaten, stomped on, and electrocuted while they are still conscious; and elephants who are attacked with steel-tipped clubs so that they’ll perform silly tricks—these are some of the nightmares that PETA’s undercover investigations have brought to the world’s attention. Without our investigative work, thousands of animals we have helped would still be suffering behind locked doors at the hands of their abusers. It is your support that allows PETA to get inside these industries—and gather indisputable proof that animals are being tortured and killed. Please make as generous contribution as you can afford to support PETA’s undercover investigations. PETA investigators work to get inside almost every type of industry that harms animals, often at great risk. Every day, they must watch heartless acts of cruelty while wearing hidden cameras strapped to their bodies. Our investigators know they face harassment and even physical violence if anyone realizes that they’re working undercover. But they do it anyway—because PETA investigations get results. PETA undercover investigations make a huge difference for animals. The evidence we uncover leads to boycotts, protests, lawsuits, arrests, fines, and convictions—and the abuse stops. Make a secure online donation to help PETA continue its investigations. For example, our investigation of Biosearch obtained footage showing that kittens and rabbits were convulsing in agony because of the substances dripped into their eyes and onto their shaved skin. Armed with this evidence, PETA launched a massive campaign against cosmetics testing on animals, which prompted many big companies to cancel their contracts and stop testing on animals altogether. Without such footage, we couldn’t win our vital campaigns. Without our brave investigators, we wouldn’t have this footage. And without your help, we couldn’t do any of that. Right now, PETA has investigators inside facilities that abuse animals in horrible ways. To support their efforts, please make a contribution. PETA’s undercover investigations are the most powerful tool in the world for protecting animals. For corporations that abuse animals, there is no escape from the outcry generated by the footage our investigators obtain. These investigations save lives and stop the torture of animals. I urge you to support them today.

News du 9 mai 2007 : For more than a year, PETA has been working with food-industry giant PepsiCo-the multibillion-dollar parent company of brands like Pepsi-Cola, Frito-Lay, Tropicana, Quaker Oats, and Gatorade-to convince the corporation and its affiliates to end their funding of animal tests. These tests were designed to substantiate health claims on product labels and to further basic nutrition research - neither of which needs to be done on animals. One experiment funded by the PepsiCo Foundation involved surgically implanting testosterone pellets and human prostate tumors in mice and injecting them with an acid compound, which caused the deaths of two animals before the end of the experiment-when all the animals were killed. Another experiment-funded by PepsiCo's partner, the Gatorade Sports Science Institute (GSSI)-involved infecting mice with a respiratory virus and then forcing them to exercise on a treadmill for more than two hours for three consecutive days, after which they were all killed. These are just a few of the tests that PepsiCo and its partners have funded. I'm pleased to tell you that PepsiCo has announced that it will not conduct or fund experiments on animals and is pledging to communicate its opposition to animal testing to all entities with which the corporation works. PepsiCo has posted the following statement on its Web site:

"PepsiCo does not do any animal testing and does not directly fund testing using animals. ...Where testing on animals is not required, PepsiCo strongly endorses efficient and effective research that does not include the use of animals. We will encourage our partners to use alternatives to animal testing and share this statement with organizations we believe to be involved in projects potentially involving animal research done on behalf of PepsiCo or with PepsiCo or PepsiCo Foundation funding."

PepsiCo now joins POM Wonderful, Ocean Spray, and Welch's in banning animal tests after hearing from PETA, along with 22 other beverage companies-including Campbell's V8, Sunny Delight, and Old Orchard-that have pledged to PETA that they will not fund or conduct animal tests. Tragically, companies like Coca-Cola and Unilever (maker of Lipton Tea and other food products) continue to conduct and fund needless tests on animals simply to substantiate health claims or assure product safety. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) states: "[T]he Agency is not aware of any circumstances that would result in the FDA requiring a food or beverage company to conduct laboratory experiments on animals ..." We need your help to urge these companies to end their animal tests. Please write to them at the addresses shown below:

News du 10 avril 2007 : Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus is just beginning its 2007 tour across North America. The circus's cruelty to animals is indisputable. Two PETA investigators tracked Ringling at every stop of its 2006 tour. Out of public view, they documented on videotape that Ringling employees were viciously hitting elephants and striking them with bullhooks until the animals bled and cried out—in addition to many other acts of cruelty. According to eyewitness accounts, Ringling's head elephant trainer savagely beat an elephant with a bullhook behind her ear, on her leg, and on her back. The trainer swung the bullhook with such force that its point was embedded inside the elephant's ear canal. The abuses that PETA has uncovered have led to multiple open investigations of Ringling by the U.S. government and have cost the circus a national tour sponsor. PETA's work has left "the greatest show on Earth" with dwindling attendance numbers. But Ringling still refuses to retire its abusive animal acts. I am writing to you today to ask for your help pressuring Ringling and all companies that use animals for "entertainment" to stop their abusive practices. For animals, another Ringling tour means another year of beatings and long days chained or confined to cramped, poorly ventilated boxcars. If we work together, we can hold Ringling accountable for its cruelty to animals. But we need your support. Please make a donation today to support our campaign to get live animals out of circuses and all other forms of entertainment. There is nothing entertaining about animal abuse. Can I count on your support to help stop Ringling's abuse in the name of family entertainment? I sincerely hope that the answer is yes. You and I are the only hope that these animals have. Your support will help PETA expose the suffering of animals used by Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus and get animals out of entertainment acts. Please stand with us for the animals' sake by supporting our vital work with as generous a tax-deductible donation as you can afford.

MessageSujet: Re: infos   Mer 23 Mai - 9:23

http://www.fourrure-torture.com/fourrure-lapin.html

http://www.petatv.com/tvpopup/Prefs.asp?video=fur_farm

Burger King Adopts New Industry-Leading Animal Welfare Policien. New Jersey Man, Convicted of Manslaughter, Now Charged With Killing Dog. Make a positive impact for animals this spring and summer by leafleting at local festivals, fairs, and concerts. Hundreds (even thousands) of people will go to local arenas, beaches, and city centers, and you'll be surprised how many people you can reach just by leafleting for one hour! You can pass out leaflets at any public place where you find a lot of people, such as in a line to buy tickets or food or in a crowd waiting for a band to start playing. Contact PETA's activist liaisons for more information on effective leafleting or to refill your supply of leaflets. Be sure to also check out PETA's monthly leafleting alert for helpful leafleting ideas. Animals in factory farms, on fur farms, in vivisection labs, and in the entertainment industry never get a break. Spending a few hours per week educating people about animals' suffering is the least we can do.

News du 15 avril 2007 : Tell Wendy's to Follow Burger King's Lead on Animal Welfare. In 2001, PETA called off its "Wicked Wendy's" campaign after the company agreed to make some animal welfare changes and pledged to continue to make improvements. In the last six years, however, Wendy's has not taken one single significant step to reduce the suffering of animals killed for its restaurants:

- Wendy's pig flesh still comes from suppliers that confine pregnant pigs in metal and cement gestation crates that are so small that the pigs can't even turn around.
- Wendy's eggs still come from suppliers that confine hens to tiny wire battery cages.
- Wendy's chicken flesh still comes from suppliers that cut open live birds' throats and scald the animals, often while they are still conscious.

As you may know, Burger King recently announced groundbreaking animal welfare improvements that will significantly reduce the suffering of chickens and pigs killed for its restaurants. Specifically, Burger King is decreasing its use of pig flesh from suppliers that use gestation crates and eggs from suppliers that use battery cages. Burger King is also giving purchasing preference to chicken suppliers that switch to far less cruel slaughter methods. We've asked Wendy's to follow Burger King's lead, but its executives have refused to do so.

Send a letter to the following decision maker(s):
Wendy's Excecutives. Below is the sample letter:

Subject: Wendy's: Follow Burger King's Lead on Animal Welfare!

Dear [decision maker name automatically inserted here],

I am shocked to hear that Wendy's has done nothing in the last six years to improve the lives and deaths of the animals killed for its restaurants. As you know, Burger King recently promised to start buying a significant share of its pig flesh and eggs from suppliers that don't confine hens and mother pigs to cruel metal cages and is also giving purchasing preference to chicken suppliers that use or switch to a less cruel form of slaughter. Wendy's has refused to follow Burger King's lead. Millions of chickens and pigs continue to suffer enormously because of Wendy's lack of action. Please do the right thing and help reduce animal suffering by promising that Wendy's will match or exceed Burger King's new animal welfare standards.

News du 25 avril 2007 : We need your help right now to end the abuse of animals forced to perform in circuses and other forms of entertainment. You already know that animals are physically abused, mentally tormented, and cruelly neglected in the name of family "entertainment." By now, you also know all about the hideous cruelty to animals that takes place behind the scenes at the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus. What you may not know is that Ringling is just the tip of the iceberg. PETA is currently also investigating a flood of complaints against other operations, like roadside zoos and rodeos, that force animals—including sheep, elephants, horses, bears, and dogs—to live and perform in unimaginably cruel conditions. Some of these lesser-known operations get away with murder because they face little—or no—official scrutiny. I know that caring people like you will not turn away from the suffering of these animals. Neither will the hard-working team here at PETA. To do so would send the message that animals are ours to torment and that violence against them can go unpunished. By making an online contribution to PETA, you send a different message: that you are dedicated to fighting the fear, humiliation, and abuse endured by animals in the entertainment industry. PETA's campaign for government action against Ringling is flourishing, and we are also working to protect animals in other areas of the entertainment industry. The following are just a few of the targets that we are pursuing: G.W. Exotic Animal Park This establishment drags tiger, lion, and bear cubs to shopping malls and makes misleading claims that its roadside zoo is a sanctuary. The Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race In this year's race, not only did numerous dogs suffer injuries, illnesses, and even death, but musher Ramy Brooks was disqualified for beating all 10 of his dogs for refusing to cross an ice field. The U.S. Army The U.S. Army has been channeling $2 million of your tax dollars into the cruel rodeo industry as part of its "recruitment strategy." The suffering of all these animals often goes unnoticed or ignored. Their only hope is people like you who are unwilling to sit by while they endure lives of pain and fear. I urge you to help champion the rights of these forgotten animals today. Your online donation will support PETA's efforts to expose and curtail the rampant abuse of animals in the entertainment industry. Nothing stops cruelty to animals faster than the intervention of PETA and members like you. To make sure that we are able to act wherever and whenever animals are being mistreated, we rely on your activism and unwavering support. Please make as generous a donation as you can afford today. Speak up for those who have no other voices.

News du 25 avril 2007 : We need your help right now to end the abuse of animals forced to perform in circuses and other forms of entertainment. Animals are physically abused, mentally tormented, and cruelly neglected in the name of family "entertainment." You know all about the hideous cruelty to animals that takes place behind the scenes at the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus. What you may not know is that Ringling is just the tip of the iceberg. News du 23 avril 2007 : Tell Wendy's to Follow Burger King's Lead on Animal Welfare.

Wendy's Excecutives

Do the right thing and help reduce animal suffering by promising that Wendy's will match or exceed Burger King's new animal welfare standards.

News du 25 avril 2007 : Pam Anderson vs. KFC. Burger King Adopts New Industry-Leading Animal Welfare Policies.

Sincerely yours,

News du 21 avril 2007 :Please join us in urging the Zac Posen design company to discontinue the sale of all fur and fur-trimmed items and to institute a permanent fur-free policy. PETA has asked Zac Posen to join other top designers and retailers-including Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger, Polo Ralph Lauren, Ann Taylor, and others-who have already adopted permanent fur-free policies, but company executives refuse even to meet with us to discuss the issue. Animals trapped in the wild for their fur often suffer for days in steel-jaw traps. Many die of exposure, frostbite, shock, blood loss, or infection or are attacked and killed by predators. Mothers desperate to return to their young will often chew off a limb in an effort to free themselves. Trappers eventually return and strangle, stomp, or bludgeon any survivors to death. Animals on fur farms spend their entire lives confined to cramped, filthy wire cages, where they are exposed to all weather conditions. They often go without clean water or veterinary care, and they are denied the opportunity to engage in natural behaviors like climbing, burrowing, and swimming. The intensive confinement causes many animals on fur farms to go insane. Fur farmers use the cheapest killing methods available, including neck-breaking, suffocation, poisoning, and electrocution. Many animals are electrocuted by having rods inserted into their rectums and 240 volts of electricity sent through their bodies. The animals convulse, shake, and often cry out before suffering painful heart attacks. Crude killing methods aren't always effective, and sometimes animals "wake up" while they are being skinned. Zac Posen executives know about the suffering that goes into every fur-trimmed coat, hat, and bag, yet the company continues to use and promote real fur. Please contact Susan Posen and let her know that you will not buy any Zac Posen designs until the company makes the compassionate decision to go fur-free.

News du 21 avril 2007 : As an eyewitness to the barbaric practices that take place behind the scenes at Ringling, I'd like to tell you exactly what happens so that you can help me spread the word to people who still think that circuses that use animals are good family "entertainment." I joined Ringling last April because I wanted the opportunity to work with animals every day. I was totally unprepared for what I saw. The public has no idea that Ringling's handlers are taught to keep the animals afraid. I saw the elephants, horses, and camels get hit, punched, beaten, and whipped by circus staff members. Everyone from the head of animal care to totally inexperienced handlers abused animals. The abuse did not take place once in a while; it happened every day. Witnessing this abuse left me a nervous wreck. I routinely complained to my supervisors about what I knew was outright cruelty to animals, but I was told repeatedly that I was overreacting. Just a few months after I'd joined, I quit Ringling because I couldn't stand the cruelty inherent in the circus any longer. I was an animal lover before I joined Ringling. Now, I am also an animal activist. I have joined PETA's efforts to stop the horrific violence inflicted on animals by Ringling. I am a mother of five children, and having seen what goes on behind the scenes at Ringling, I will never again take them to a circus that exploits animals.

Among all the horrors I saw behind the scenes at Ringling, one event stands out. That was the day I saw Ringling's head trainer viciously assault a sweet elephant who was chained by her front and back legs, unable to escape from the blows. For at least half an hour, the trainer beat her with a bullhook—a heavy, steel-tipped club that Ringling's handlers use frequently. At one point, I saw the trainer swing the bullhook into the elephant's ear canal with all his force as she screamed in pain. That particular trainer was known to have a violent temper. On June 11, 2006, I saw him lead two elephants, whom I believe were called Luna and Tonka, within inches of a man who was videotaping them. Luna and Tonka are Ringling's most aggressive elephants, and I was shocked that the trainer would so recklessly endanger this man's life. I then saw the trainer attack the man with his bullhook. It was only later that I learned that the person the trainer had threatened worked for PETA. The PETA staff members who tracked our tour stood in stark contrast to the bullies working for Ringling. I observed the tireless PETA staff members from afar and was impressed by their composure, dedication, and compassion. That's why I knew I had to tell PETA everything I'd seen when I decided to leave Ringling. Now that I've come forward, I know that PETA—and members like you—will make sure that Ringling faces consequences for its heartless cruelty. Let's make sure the elephants' story is told. I can only imagine the kind of resources it takes to put investigators on the road in order to follow a company like Ringling for an entire year. But if it weren't for PETA's willingness to do so, no one would ever know what's being done to Ringling's animals. Thank you for supporting their work.

News du 5 avril 2007 : Thank you for standing up for harp seals and demanding an end to this truly hellish situation. Even though more than 120,000 caring people voiced their outrage to Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper, the Canadian government has sided with the killers. The hunt of baby seals began today. Despite this disgusting development, we cannot give up. We must redouble our efforts to protect harp seals and end their slaughter. Together we will continue to fight for seals and all other animals who are killed for their fur until the fur trade is stopped in its tracks. That is a long-term commitment that requires constant, unfaltering work. While the Canadian government is responsible for allowing the slaughter to resume this year, it's the furriers and their cohorts in the fashion industry who are ultimately profiting the most from the slaughter. It's only by educating both designers and consumers about the true cost of every fur and fur-trimmed item that we can hope to see an end to the killing of seals, minks, foxes, raccoons, and other animals who are murdered for their fur. In recent months we have made huge progress working with the fashion industry. Our victories for animals include convincing Tommy Hilfiger, Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, and other leading retailers and designers to stop using fur in their fashion collections. We have also revealed to millions of consumers exactly how terribly animals' lives are ended and how they suffer. Media coverage of PETA's demonstrations and riveting ads featuring Simon Cowell and others are spreading our message that there's no excuse for fur. To be successful in stopping the fur industry, we need your continued help: Start at home: Never buy or wear fur, not even the smallest bit of trim, and encourage everyone you know to do the same.

Be outspoken: Learn polite and effective ways to engage people—even fur-wearers—in conversations about this cruel industry. Tell the fashion industry to stop: Support our campaign to end fur sales by major fashion retailer Burberry. Working together we can end this horribly cruel practice, make fashion fur-free, and save countless animals' lives.
