News du 24 juillet 2008 : What summer Olympic coverage won't show you‏

What you didn't see during the summer Olympics

Sign Peta's fur-free pledge :

http://www.furisdead.com/pledge-furfree.asp?c=chfrplg

There's a lot to celebrate about the Summer Olympics in China: The many nations of the world put politics aside and come together in peace so that the greatest human athletes on Earth can compete.

But there's an ugly side for animals living in the Olympic host country, a side that you won't see in this week's nonstop coverage: the Chinese fur industry's horrific abuse of animals.

By making an urgent donation today to support our work, you can help us draw the world's attention to the cruelty of the Chinese fur industry and keep people from unwittingly supporting it. :

https://ibiz.isiservices.com/peta-e/peta/donation.asp?section_code=H08T173P&ask4=--25-35-50-100-o

An estimated 2 million cats and hundreds of thousands of dogs are tortured and slaughtered for their fur in China every year. PETA's undercover video footage shows terrified animals crouched in tiny cages that are crammed so full of animals—both dead and alive—that the animals are unable to move. Some of the dogs and cats shown in the footage were still wearing the collars that their former families put on them. Animals are often hung upside-down by their legs or tails, and their skin is ripped off their bodies as they writhe and struggle.

China's fur industry unrepentantly continues to torture and kill animals for their skins.

China is one of the world's largest suppliers of animal fur. More than 95 percent of China's finished fur garments are exported for sale overseas, and many of them go to North America. Dog and cat fur is often intentionally mislabeled as 'Asian jackal' or 'rabbit' fur.

With so much attention focused on China right now, this is the time to demand an end to the Chinese fur industry's terrible torture of animals. Please help us stand in the way of the fur industry by taking the following two simple steps:

Sign our pledge to go fur-free. :

http://www.furisdead.com/pledge-furfree.asp?c=chfrplg

Thousands of people—including gold-medal-winning Olympic swimmer Amanda Beard—have already pledged never to buy or wear fur. Please also forward this pledge to all your friends, colleagues, and family members. This simple act is one of PETA's most successful weapons in the fight against fur because it gets new people to take the pledge and think about the cruelty that goes into making fur garments.

Make a generous donation online to support PETA's worldwide anti-fur campaign. :

https://ibiz.isiservices.com/peta-e/peta/donation.asp?section_code=H08T173P&ask4=--25-35-50-100-o

Your gift will allow us to keep working hard to end the horrors of the fur industry in China and around the world. Please help us stop the slaughter of animals for fashion!
We know that the fight against the fur trade is one that we can win for animals if we push hard enough, long enough, and vigorously enough. PETA's efforts to expose the true cost of every piece of fur has already helped convince some of the world's leading designers and retailers—including Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger, Polo Ralph Lauren, and Ann Taylor—to adopt permanent fur-free policies. With your help, we can work to ensure that animals, including dogs and cats who are treated like trash by the Chinese fur industry, don't suffer for their fur.

Don't let this important moment pass without doing all that you can to help cats and dogs and other tortured animals in China. Sign the petition, and make your gift now.

Thank you for supporting our work to end senseless cruelty.

Make an urgent gift to help stop the horrors that our investigators witnessed in China :

https://ibiz.isiservices.com/peta-e/peta/donation.asp?section_code=H08T173P&ask4=--25-35-50-100-o

P.S. By making a generous gift today, you can send a powerful message to those in China and around the world who profit from the unimaginable suffering of animals. Please act against the cruel fur industry today.

Shut down the international fur trade :

Every year, millions of cats, dogs, rabbits, minks, foxes, and hamsters are tortured and killed for their fur.

China is one of the world's largest suppliers of fur garments. More than 95 percent of China's finished fur garments are exported for sale overseas, and many of them go to North America. Cat and dog fur is often deliberately mislabeled as "Asian jackal" or "rabbit" fur.

This summer, with the world's eyes focused on China during the Olympics, PETA is exposing the horrors that take place on Chinese fur farms. This is a historic opportunity to speak out against the global fur trade and influence consumers worldwide. But to seize this moment, we urgently need your help.

Your gift will allow us to intensify our pressure on the fur industry in China and around the world and help end the terrible suffering of animals who are killed for their fur.

News du 22 juillet 2008 :

Consumers everywhere need to know the truth about fur. When people learn that millions of innocent animals are beaten, boiled, hanged, and electrocuted for their fur every year ... when they learn that every fur coat, lining, trim, or fur cat toy represents the intense suffering of several dozen animals? and when they learn that furriers intentionally mislabel fur as not taken from dogs and cats or as fake ... then every decent human being will want to go FUR-FREE.

By signing the pledge below—and encouraging your friends and family to do so as well—you'll be sending a powerful message not only to the fur industry, but also to designers, retailers, and others who directly profit from the suffering caused by this cruel industry.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I, the undersigned, hereby pledge to go FUR-FREE. I say "NO" to the cruel and barbaric slaughter of millions of animals around the world for their skin. I say "NO" to fur coats, collars, trim, trinkets, cat toys, and other products made from the fur of animals as well as any other attempt to sneak fur into everyday items. I pledge to expose the truth about fur and to spread the word until we close down the international fur trade forever.

Massacres d’animaux en Turquie
Bonjour,

objet: Mr. Ertugrul Gunay Minister of Culture and Tourism

Dear Minister,

I want to draw your attention to the horrible torturing and killing of homeless dogs in Kars.

The municipality of Kars made a "cleaning operation" of the homeless dogs for the third Multinational Caucasian Cultures Festival which will have folk dance groups from 11 countries.

The night before men of the municipality sought for homeless dogs at the back streets and shot them poisonous injections. Shot dogs agonized in front of streets for hours.

A fter their death, they were put in dust-carts. While the workers were throwing the dogs inside to the dust-cart with shovels, it has been seen that some dogs weren't dead yet and were agonizing. Still living dogs were
pressed in the dust-carts. During this vicious slaughter, the public of Kars and little children were watching the massacre just like watching a football game.

http://www.dailymotion. com/video/x5wzuu_massacre_animals

Mayor of Kars, Naif Alibeyoðlu, confessed the event and members of his team
cited what happened literally with the following words: " We are using
poisonous injections for killing. We are going to kill all the homeless dogs
in the city. They can't take the alive dogs to the vehicles. There is no
question of that. Citizens complain and we go to the place and make the
destruction. "(Principle of Zabýta -a municipal police force who has to
control if the various laws and ordinances are observed, especially those
dealing with prices, fair marketing, building construction, and sanitation -
Ahmet Ýli)

https://i45.servimg.com/u/f45/11/25/63/94/kars210.jpg

Inflicting undeserved, needless and horrendous cruelty upon voiceless, defenceless and sentient living creatures such as dogs and other animals is base, cowardly, unethical, immoral and irreligious. Turkey cannot be a part
of the European Union.

You must enact and enforce animal protection laws as a responsible, caring modern government. We are surely not living in the dark ages again, are we?
Dogs are loving, faithful, loyal, sensitive and intelligent creatures who have been companion animals, guides, life-savers and even therapists to human beings. It is vile, base and savage to beat and torture a poor dog to
death.

Can you not see how barbarous this is? Are your eyes and ears closed to all decency, compassion and ethics? Please do the right thing and do not allow this 'cleaning operation'.

Your criterion with regard to moral conduct must never change: that is, THE STRONG MUST PROTECT THE WEAK. Or, have you forgotten what it is to be HUMAN?

Yours truly,

URGENT ACTION NEEDED!

Urge your Senator to vote YES

Dear Respect,

In May of 2008, the House of Representatives passed The Great Cats and Rare Canids Act – which would provide much needed resources for the conservation of endangered rare cat and canine species around the world. This includes jaguars, snow leopards, cheetahs, African wild dogs, and many other iconic animals.

Now the Senate must take action soon if the bill is to become law.

Please take action today to save these animals from becoming extinct. :

http://www.ifaw.org/ifaw_united_states/get_involved/take_action/index.php

In addition to the habitat loss, poaching, and environmental degradation that threatens wildlife worldwide, wild cat and canine species face an array of threats driven by humanity's long fascination with, and fear of, large carnivores. Human-wildlife conflict, exploitation for skins and the medicinal trade, and persecution driven by mythology and misperception are devastating the world's wild cat and canine species.

The Great Cats and Rare Canids Act is modelled after a highly successful conservation program that combines public funding with private donations to produce real, on-the-ground benefits for wildlife. The program is already working to save other wildlife species like Asian and African elephants, tigers, orangutans, sea turtles, and rhinos.

Together we can make a difference for jaguars, leopards and African wild dogs and other imperiled cats and canines.

Please contact your Senators and urge them to support the Great Cats and Rare Canids Act ( S. 1033), and vote yes when the bill comes to the Senate floor. :

http://www.ifaw.org/ifaw_united_states/get_involved/take_action/index.php

Thank you for taking action for the animals

Noticia del 7 de octubre de 2008 :

Efforts to Reform San Francisco Zoo Continue

IDA Members Should Take Pride In Our Accomplishments So Far

For decades animal welfare problems have plagued the San Francisco Zoo. Many of the animals have been housed in the same cement enclosures for decades, despite the zoo spending tens of millions of dollars. New animals continue to be brought into the zoo, while animals are left to languish in outdated and inhumane conditions.

However all these problems had been ignored by the city, the San Francisco Zoological Society and the oversight committees until IDA stepped in and made animal welfare an issue, bringing the problems to the attention of the public and city officials. We did this by:

Organizing a well-attended press conference with international zoo experts who deemed San Francisco Zoo conditions “third world” and echoed IDA’s call for reform;
Launching a publicity campaign that resulted in extensive media coverage of the zoo’s animal welfare and management woes;
Supporting a proposed ordinance, sponsored by San Francisco Supervisor Chris Daly, to transform the zoo into a rescue facility that places a priority on animal welfare and establish much-needed, independent oversight.
Although Supervisor Daly’s ordinance did not become law, IDA’s campaign forced city and zoo officials to acknowledge the woeful animal welfare deficiencies and need for change at the zoo. The result has been a number of important changes:

Zoo director Manuel Mollinedo was replaced with an acting director, Tanya Peterson, who is much more responsive to animal welfare concerns;
Mayor Gavin Newsom dispatched Carl Friedman, the city’s highly respected animal control director, to the zoo full-time to deal solely with animal welfare issues;
At Supervisor Bevan Dufty’s request, Mayor Newsom is seeking the creation of two new seats on the Joint Zoo Committee, which oversees zoo operations for the city. One seat will be for a member of the city’s Animal Control and Welfare Commission; the other will be for a veterinarian. The addition of these seats is proposed to rectify the complete failure of the Joint Zoo Committee to consider and address animal welfare concerns.
Although these changes do not go as far as we would like, IDA believes that they are a first step to changing the San Francisco Zoo into an institution that reflects the city’s progressive and humanitarian values. We will be continuing to monitor this situation and to work with zoo officials to ensure meaningful change for the animals at the zoo.

What You Can Do

Stay up-to-date with what's going on at the San Francisco Zoo here: http://www.rescuesfzoo.org/.

If you live or work in San Francisco only, please:

Write to Supervisor Chris Daly to thank him for his dedication to improving the plight of the animals at the San Francisco Zoo:

Chris.Daly@sfgov.org

Please also send a note of thanks to the other Supervisors who voted in favor of the ordinance:

Ross.Mirkarimi@sfgov.org

Gerardo.Sandoval@sfgov.org

Tom.Ammiano@sfgov.org

And finally, only if you live or work in San Francisco, please write to the Mayor and Supervisor Dufty commending them for acknowledging the problems at the zoo. Tell them you appreciate the changes they are proposing to deal with these problems. Finally, let them know that you will be watching to see that the proposed changes achieve prompt, tangible and visible changes for the many animals currently languishing in inadequate and inhumane conditions at this facility.

IDA-India Helps A Horse, Teaches An Important Lesson

Dedicated advocates work to curtail massive suffering

India, birthplace of such spiritual luminaries and groundbreaking animal champions as Gandhi, is experiencing unprecedented economic development and social transformation with the dawn of the 21st century. Yet countless animals in this historically veg-friendly country still suffer from neglect, abuse, disease, and starvation.

IDA-India carries on this ancient nation's proud tradition of kindness to animals by working to ease their pain and give many a better life. In one recent month, we performed a total of 1,074 surgeries (including spay and neuter operations) on dogs and cats, 195 treatments on needy horses, and health services for more than 100 animals through their mobile clinic.

IDA-India is building a network to adopt cats, kittens, dogs, and puppies to loving homes. With many dogs and cats still wandering the streets, IDA-India has their work cut out for them, but we are proud to support their work to rescue and treat those in need and educate the public about the companion animal homelessness crisis that plagues this country just like so many others around the world.

This scene is all too common in India. Fortunately, IDA India staff are always eager to help. Here's a letter we received describing the situation pictured here:

"Good morning,

On 30th of September, as soon as I returned to my home at 10.00 pm after examining the horses at Five gardens and Vadala, I received a call from Shiva from Nariman Point stating that his horse has met with an accident with a taxi and he is bleeding profusely. The voice of Shiva was broken and he sounded panicky so I advised him to apply ice wrapped in a cloth on the wound with mild pressure. After reaching there I found that there was a deep penetrating wound at the breast of horse and muscles were deeply ruptured. Immediately I located the major bleeders and ligated them. Then one by one muscles were sutured and finally the skin.

The guardian and handlers almost lost hope for him but when the horse stood up after the operation, they all were relieved. Next day when I went there to see his condition, I was satisfied to see that he is no more in pain and with his silent eyes he was saying thanks to all those staff of IDA who supported and put in their efforts to relieve him from agonizing pain. His guardian was surprised and happy with the promptness with which his horse was attended. Then we did root cause analysis (RCA) of his condition. After long discussion and brainstorming, all the guardians and handlers concluded that horses should not be forced to run fast in the cart. Secondly the improper shoeing and hoof trimming leads to inability of horse to stop suddenly. Shiva said that, “I have learned a lesson of my life time not to overstress my horse to run.”

He will take time to heal, till then he is on rest. I try to attend to him every alternate day at least.

With regards

As Christmas and New Year's are approaching, I want to send you our very best wishes and a huge "Thank you!" for your support in 2008.

None of the wonderful victories we have achieved this year would have been possible without you! You are truly a vital part of our organisation.

PETA's work and that of our affiliates around the world are prompting great change that is helping millions of individual animals. From convincing global companies such as H&M to stop selling wool from mutilated lambs to persuading KFCs in Canada to make sweeping changes to their animal welfare policies, the campaigns of PETA and it's affiliates are setting historic precedents.

One highlight of the past year was when Ann Widdecombe MP showed her colleagues in the Houses of Parliament undercover footage that PETA US had obtained of hunters trapping and killing black bears in Canada – the source of the fur used to make The Queen's Guards' caps. That and other similar actions from politicians of all persuasions helped us extract the first-ever solid commitment from the MoD to switch to a faux-fur fabric, which will spare thousands of black bears their lives and tremendous suffering.

I have one favour to ask. If you are able to give a gift this Christmas, will you please consider making a donation to PETA? No matter how big or small, your contribution will have a real and lasting effect on animals. Please help us do all we can to help them.

https://rsm2.rsmsecure.com/cpterminal/cpweb.php

Thank you so much for already being a part of our effective work and also for your support today. I am especially grateful that, even in these challenging times, we have compassionate people like you to turn to for help. Like us, you understand that it is animals who are always at the bottom of the barrel.

Everyone here at PETA wishes you a merry Christmas and a happy New Year. We look forward to working vigorously on your behalf to help animals in 2009. With you by our side, we will achieve more and more great victories for animals in the coming year.

Very truly yours,

Ingrid E Newkirk
Founder

PS Christmas is a time for celebration, but for millions of animals languishing on factory farms and in laboratories, performing cruel tricks in the entertainment industry or waiting to be killed for the skin on their backs, there is nothing to celebrate. Please give one more gift this Christmas – the most important gift you can make – the gift of hope and compassion for countless animals in dire straits around the world. Thank you.

A quien corresponda.

Sanctuaries: Vital havens that save livesWhether airlifting bears or relocating ‘problem’ elephants, IFAW gives to wild animals the sanctuary they need, either for long-term care or prior to release back to the wild. By tackling the root causes of their displacement, we are supporting vital long-term conservation efforts.

IFAW helps ease the suffering of wild and domestic animals whenever possible.

Individual wild animals are continually being placed into crisis situations as a result of human activities, such as unethical hunting practices, habitat loss, wildlife trade and commercial exploitation.

When captive animals cry out from cruelty, when injured or orphaned wildlife needs gentle care and rehabilitation, or when an individual animal needs a safe sanctuary, IFAW's Emergency Relief Team responds.

IFAW helped the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) relocate ten "problem" elephants in the Laikipia area to the safety of Meru National Park. The successful translocation took two weeks to complete. The joint effort not only saved the lives of these elephants by defusing conflict with humans, but helped rebuild the elephant population at Meru Park.

Across Africa, tens of thousands of animals are killed, orphaned or abused as a result of the bushmeat trade. A two-year-old chimp named Commando is one of those victims. He had been captured, beaten and illegally held as a pet after bushmeat hunters killed his parents. Commando was initally rescued by the African Rainforests and Rivers Conservation group in the Central African Republic. They called IFAW to find him a safe refuge, and IFAW's Emergency Relief team made urgent plans to transport the injured chimp to Chimfunshi Wildlife Orphanage, in Northern Zambia.

IFAW rescued two Russian brown bears -- Fenja, a 38-year-old former movie star, and Ljalja, her six-year-old companion -- from desperate conditions at Moscow State University. With no funding available, the bears were forced to live in small cages. Until IFAW stepped in, they survived on nothing more than leftovers fed to them by students. The bears were airlifted to the Netherlands to be cared for at a shelter run by the International Bear Foundation.

We also financed the relocation of a tiger, lioness and cougar from a family-run facility in Massachusetts that had shut down to the Wild Animal Orphanage (WAO) in San Antonio, Texas. While the animals had been well cared for by their previous caregivers, finding new homes for them was not easy.

IFAW’s Emergency Relief program paid for the relocation, including transport and new enclosures. We're pleased that these cats will be able to live out their lives at WAO, a well-respected facility that provides sanctuary for hundreds of wild animals.

IFAW's Emergency Relief team works to actively rescue individual wild animals and place them into appropriate places of safety, to undertake rehabilitation for release back to the wild or place them in sanctuaries for long term care. All the time we are seeking ways to assist in addressing the ultimate cause of their displacement, and therefore facilitating the conservation of species and biodiversity.

Noticia del 13 de septiembre de 2008 :

Do you remember your reaction when you first saw photographs depicting the suffering of animals who are used in laboratory experiments? How about the first time you looked into the eyes of a dog who had been abused?

If you're like me, you felt a combination of shock, anger, and perhaps even helplessness. These atrocities occur all around us, every day, and are often hidden from our view.

You might respond, "What can one person do to make a difference?"

I founded PETA because I knew that good people working together with determination can accomplish far more than one person can accomplish alone. Our successes through the years have proved just how true this is.

You've already begun to make an impact by joining PETA's online community. Please take the next step by becoming a PETA member today. :

https://ibiz.isiservices.com/peta-e/peta/donation.asp?section_code=C08Q000V&ask4=--25-35-50-100-o

You and I share a love of animals and a commitment to their well-being, but not everyone else does. That's why PETA's phones never stop ringing with leads and why our mailboxes overflow with requests for help.

You may not be able to go undercover in laboratories and slaughterhouses, respond to reports of abuse of "backyard" dogs, or negotiate new corporate policies that save animals' lives and end their suffering. But if you become a PETA member, we can act together to save animals.

We have a lot of work to do in the coming months, and I hope that I can count on your support. Will you join me in the fight for animals by becoming a PETA member today?

We need your help. By giving PETA the amount of money that you might spend on a single restaurant dinner or even just a night out at the movies, you can help us help countless animals. The truth is that they have no one but us—and you—to count on.

On behalf of the animals who have been saved—and those who are still waiting for our help—thank you.

Sincerely,

Ingrid E. Newkirk
President

P.S. Joining PETA will only take a few moments of your time, and it may be the most important thing that you do this week. Joining online is fast, easy, and secure, and your membership is tax-deductible. Please take the next step for animals and become a PETA member today.

Une tortue qui fume la cigarette
TAG : NAC animal de compagnie bœuf domestique cigarette cure de désintoxication NAC nicotine tortue
Francois Saison: Sat, 04/26/2008 - 05:00.

Juicy Couture Adopts Fur-Free Policy

PETA has had a cooperative relationship with Liz Claiborne Inc. for many years. Through our work together, the company has made—and continues to make—many great strides to reduce the suffering of animals who are used and abused in the clothing industry.

We would like to share an exciting development that has resulted from our discussions with Liz Claiborne Inc.: Juicy Couture—a high-end clothing company owned by Liz Claiborne Inc.—has now adopted a permanent fur-free policy. While Juicy Couture is still selling some fur items that were stocked before this policy was adopted, it has assured us that no new fur items will be procured and that as soon as the current stock of items has gone, the company will be completely fur-free.

We applaud Liz Claiborne and Juicy Couture for making this move, which will spare animals from suffering all the torment and abuse inherent in fur production.

Unfortunately, some companies continue to sell fur despite the fact that new evidence of horrific cruelty is exposed year after year. PETA Asia-Pacific's recent undercover investigation in the Shandong region of China, for instance, produced video footage of rabbits who kicked and screamed as they were slaughtered. Another investigation into rabbit fur farms in France showed similar cruelty. :

http://getactive.peta.org/campaign/armani_fur_investigation

We need you to speak out and let the world know that it is never OK for any company to sell fur. Please let your voice be heard by urging these holdouts to go fur-free once and for all!

Armani
After watching PETA's shocking new exposé of the rabbit-fur industry you'll understand how urgent your voice is needed! Please contact Armani immediately and forward the video on to everyone you know!

Donna Karan
Donna Karan's top competitors have made fur-free commitments, and it's past time for her to do the same. Please urge Donna Karan to discontinue the sale of all fur items immediately.

Zappos.com
Online shoe retailer Zappos.com prides itself on good customer service, but no compassionate shopper wants to buy from a company that promotes the awful cruelty of the fur industry. Please demand that Zappos institutes a permanent fur-free policy today.

Canada Goose
Canada Goose, an outerwear retailer, knows about the suffering that goes into every fur-trimmed garment, but the company continues to contribute to it by using fur. Please ask Canada Goose to remove fur from their collections permanently!

Please also add PETA's recent exposé of rabbit fur farms to your social networking pages or personal Web site to show friends and family why they should never wear fur.

With constant vigilance and your continued support, we will see a completely fur-free shopping season. Thank you for contacting the companies above and for helping make the world safer for fur-bearing animals.

Sincerely,

Erin Edwards

Undercover Video Shows Rabbits Screaming During Slaughter
A disturbing new undercover exposé of rabbit fur farms on two different continents shows that rabbit slaughter, no matter why or where it occurs, is always cruel. The video, narrated by actor Gillian Anderson, shows rabbits kicking and screaming during slaughter. After the skin is ripped from the rabbits' bodies, it is sold to designers such as Giorgio Armani—who uses rabbit fur in his new designs.

The undercover investigations of rabbit fur farms in China and France—two countries from which Armani buys rabbit fur—revealed pitiful living conditions for rabbits, who are confined to tiny wire cages before they are slaughtered.

Stream this video:

In the video footage from the investigation, workers at the Chinese farm pull rabbits out of cages by their ears and shock the screaming animals in the head with a handheld electrical device, often multiple times. Rabbits with slit throats can be seen twitching and shaking, with their eyes wide open, before they die.

Armani now sells fur, including rabbit-fur coats for babies and children. The new designs mean he has broken the promise he made just last year when he said, "I spoke with the people from PETA, and they showed me some materials that convinced me not to use fur."

Please contact Giorgio Armani and urge him to keep the promise that he made by permanently removing all fur from his collections.

Dear [ Decision Maker ],

(Edit Letter Below)

I just watched Gillian Anderson's new video that exposes the cruelty of rabbit slaughter, and I was horrified to learn that Giorgio Armani has broken his promise not to use fur. Animals on fur farms spend their entire lives confined to cramped, filthy wire cages. Fur farmers use the cheapest and cruelest killing methods available, including suffocation, electrocution, gas, and poison. With the availability of so many alternatives to animal fur, it's time for Armani to remove fur from his collections permanently. Whether it comes from minks, foxes, or rabbits, fur looks best on its original owners.
Sincerely,
[Your name]
