Last week we told you about the first of two rescue transports we planned to complete over two weeks.
Our Hope Animal Sanctuary staff just completed phase two. During the two incredibly long but now familiar journeys, 184 dogs and two kittens were taken from Mississippi to Every Creature Counts in Colorado for the PetSmart “Spring Adoptathon.” The event was a huge success, providing adoption opportunities that just aren't available in Mississippi.
Among the transported animals was Eve, pictured at left, rescued by IDA on Christmas Eve. Little Eve was starving and suffering from advanced pyoderma. It took months of care for Eve to become healthy, but within weeks she became perhaps the happiest animal we’ve rescued. Her joy was contagious.
Gandalf, pictured at right, was from an abuse case. Blind and tone deaf, Gandalf was still the smartest and friendliest dog around. Having been treated for heartworms and nursed back to health, Gandalf was able to make the journey. He was the first of the dogs adopted and he's been taken under the wing of his new Golden Retriever buddy.
Two mother dogs and their 14 puppies rescued just weeks ago from a hoarding situation also made the trip. Foster homes awaited them.
