You may have noticed something unfamiliar in the graphic above – our new logo! I wanted you to be among the first select group to see this re-imagined logo that symbolizes our mission, our commitment and our excitement about the future of IDA as a global presence.
I chose 2013 as the release date because this year marks a huge milestone – our 30th anniversary! IDA was founded in 1983 by Dr. Elliot Katz with the backing of wonderful people like you, and we've been at the forefront of animal issues ever since.
As we begin this new year, we want to show you our deep appreciation for your ongoing support. Your kindness means so much as our staff fights injustice and cruelty to animals all around the globe.
As you know, we do not receive grants from corporations or big foundations – everything we are able to do is a result of your generosity. That is why we'd like to send you your 2013 Supporter Card, personalized with your name. It also has some very useful information on the back, including emergency numbers in case your animal companion should ever need them.

We hope that when you put your 2013 Supporter Card into your wallet or purse, it will not only give you a little peace of mind, but that it will also remind you of all the animals your donations help to protect and save. Just a few of the areas we plan to focus our efforts this year include:
IDA's Hope Animal Sanctuary in Mississippi is celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2013! In order to save thousands more animals over the next 20 years, the facilities are in need of repairs and upgrades.
IDA Africa has plans for more outreach efforts within the local communities, building a new enclosure for disabled chimpanzees, and writing a children's book to educate Cameroonian children about the predicament of orphaned chimpanzees.
IDA India, which already spays or neuters over 1,000 stray animals each month, has just opened a third facility, which means they will be able to provide even more operations and direct care.
The plight of elephants in zoos and circuses is the focus of never before seen, intense public interest, and we are ramping up our efforts to improve the welfare of these gentle giants and to strengthen guidelines intended to protect captive elephants. We also plan to target the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) and their outrageously lax stance on elephant health and wellbeing.
Our Wild and Free campaign, which combats the persecution of wildlife, is leading and winning the fight for wild deer in places like Washington DC's Rock Creek Park and in New York state.
Our Responsible Research campaign will continue to expose cruel animal experiments and to push for an end to the use of animals in research. December 2012 included a huge victory – The National Institutes of Health ruled to send over 100 chimpanzees from the long IDA-targeted New Iberia Research Center in Louisiana to sanctuary, after more than 14,000 IDA members signed our petition!
As some South Koreans continue to extinguish the lives of dogs and cats for meat and supposedly traditional "health tonics," IDA will fight this sickening practice by engaging in even bolder and more high profile actions that go beyond our rescue and investigative work.
Please continue to defend innocent lives with us in 2013, and claim your new Supporter Card by making a tax-deductible donation to IDA. There is so much work to be done and so many precious animals need our help – I sincerely hope you will stand with us again this year.
For the animals and for a better world,
