This campaign just reposted this quiz

“How many plastic bags do Americans use every year? Answer this quiz and forward it to friends. For each person that answers the quiz, AT&T will donate money to The Nature Conservancy. Thank you!” — Rocky At Causes (Campaign Leader)

How many plastic bags do Americans use every year?
100 million
500 million
1 billion
100 billion
Plastic bags may seem convenient. Unfortunately, however, the majority of plastic bags are used only once and end up in landfills, in our waterways and oceans, or as litter. There are simple steps we can take as consumers to reduce the amount of plastic bags that are wasted every day:

Just say "no thank you" when cashiers offer you a plastic bag for your groceries or other goods
Bring your own reusable bag with you when going to the grocery store (or any store)
Reuse or recycle any plastic bags you may get

Now's Our Chance! Urge Leaders to Ban Plastic Bags in California

A message from the campaign
Support the National Parks

This campaign just reposted this petition

“Are you tired of seeing plastic bags end up in oceans and on beaches? The United Nations Environment Program estimates that there are 46,000 pieces of plastic litter floating in every square mile of ocean. We need to put an end to plastic litter. Whether you live in California or elsewhere, please sign the petition to put pressure on leaders to pass a bill that will help prevent plastic litter. ” — Rocky At Causes (Campaign Leader)

The United Nations Environment Programme estimates that there are 46,000 pieces of plastic litter floating in every square mile of ocean.[1] Plastic bags are modern day tumbleweeds that can be seen floating in the sea and across the land. Although the plastics industry is trying to convince consumers that recycling is the best solution to fixing the plastic bag plague on our environment, recycling plastic bags is very difficult and energy inefficient. Most plastic bags end up in our landfills and thousands of them end up on our beaches and waterways. Now is our time to join together to pressure California representatives to take a leadership role to pass a plastic bag ban.

Californians use more 19 billion single use plastic bags a year, of which only 5% are recycled
Plastic bags generate 147,000 tons of trash a year in California
As taxpayers, we foot the bill for the trash bag clean up in California - 3.23 billion a year (That's $88 per person!)
Plastic bags make their way to the ocean, where they negatively affect 296 different species of marine life.
55 Municipalities in California have already banned the bag, creating a cumbersome patchwork of regulations, passing a statewide bill would simplify logistics and operations
Sign the petition and urge leaders to pass a bill this year.
